Moving homes is not easy, and can be particularly annoying if you’re moving into a smaller home than your current one. Rather than loosing your mind over how to do it, or how you will possibly manage, opt to follow some of our tips suggested bellow…Sort your things before you start packing – first step; going through all your things and sorting them into piles of “I want these at my house”, “I don’t want these things in my house”, and “I don’t have space for these things in my house”. The first pile is pretty easy; it’s the things you simple cannot and will not live without.
Your most favorite clothes, pieces of furniture that you adore, books and other things necessary for your work, studies or even hobbies etc. Once you’ve sorted things into this first category, take your time to go through them again, then sorting them into “I can’t live without these in my house”, and “I can live with it being away from me” categories. Get rid of all the access – now, onto the rest; dealing with the “I don’t want these” items, “I don’t have space for these” items, and last, “I can live with it being away from me” items. The first category is pretty easysimple get rid of them by throwing away, donating or selling these items. The “I don’t have space” items are all probably things like extra furniture, mementos you don’t have the heart to throw out, or even things that were given to you; and so are special. Consider storing these, as well as the items categorized “I can live with these being away from me” in a relative’s house, or even better, at a self storage unit.
Safe but out of the way.
Label each box and piece of furniture – list all of the things going into boxes, and label them so you know where these need to be sent to when the movers Canberra take over. This not only makes it easier on them to get things done faster, it also makes life less stressful to your during your initial few days in your new home. Doing this also gives you an idea about how many things goes into parts of your home, making sure you don’t overcrowd it with things. Think 3 times before buying anything new for your new house – it can be rather tempting to by all new things for your new home, but do your best to restrain yourself from doing so. Reuse whenever possible; preferably those things you’ve set aside in storage as well. Be minimalistic when it comes to your possessions. If your home is quite small, consider having multi purposes for all the available space, as well as multi purposing your things…
